Playing with porcelain and stitch a collaboration

Well what a week I started a new project in schools and visited the lovely Priscilla Jones where it all kicked off into a collaborative project for September. Priscilla had attended one of my workshops at the mill and we batted ideas back and forth as she wants to use porcelain in her new 'scary' dolls range and I wanted to start looking at other ways to embellish my work. So we are swapping ideas and I have some of her work to play with and am casting a small doll for her to start with. And so we thought lets do some workshops. Teaching can be very inspirational and a good place to swap and generate ideas so we are going to have a weekend in September at the mill working with textiles and clay.

'Playing with porcelain and stitch' is a collaborative workshop project with textile artist Priscilla Jones and ceramic artist julie Miles. The project will start with a joint workshop at Higherford Mill, Gisburn Road, Barrowford, Lancashire on September 21st-22nd Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm £145 per person.

Day one will concentrate on textiles and machine stitch. Looking at ways of working to incorporate porcelain as an embellishment to the works produced or working towards creating pieces to be impressed into porcelain to create sculptures or vessels incorporating stitch as a decorative element. Day two will be working with porcelain using hand building techniques. No experience is needed just enthusiasm for either of both media and works will be fired to be collected or posted back for a small fee.

All materials included but own sewing machine would be desirable though there will be a number provided. Maximum of 8 participants for the two day course refreshments included but a pack lunch needs to be brought along by the participants.

Booking and a deposit to secure place is essential. Please contact info@juliemiles.co.uk for booking forms and with any further questions about this unique opportunity.
